Trump family's commercial venture applies for trademark privileges at airports utilizing the president's name.

The Trump family's business has made a request to secure a trademark for the use of the president's name at airports, indicating that it does not intend to impose any charges—at least regarding a potential renaming of one located near his residence in Florida.

The Trump Organization has submitted applications to the federal trademark office to gain exclusive rights to leverage the president's name at airports and numerous associated products and services found there, including transport for travelers, canopies, luggage, and pilot attire.

These filings coincide with discussions in Florida concerning a state proposal to rename Palm Beach airport in honor of Trump, as well as an ongoing debate over funding for a tunnel connecting New York and New Jersey linked to suggestions for it and Dulles International Airport in Virginia to bear his name.

The Trump Organization stated that the filings were prompted by the Florida legislation and emphasized that it is not pursuing any financial gain—merely safeguarding against potential misuse, citing that the Trump name is the “most infringed trademark in the world.”

“To make it clear, the President along with his family will not receive any royalties, licensing payments, or monetary advantages from the proposed renaming of the airport,” the group stated in an announcement, mentioning what is presently referred to as Palm Beach International Airport, which is situated close to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property.

The organization did not provide a prompt response when inquired whether it would impose royalties for the usage of the name at different airports in the future, or regarding merchandise listed for trademark protection in the applications. Josh Gerben, a trademark attorney who discovered the filings over the weekend, remarked that these applications are unprecedented in his experience.

"Although monuments have traditionally been named in honor of presidents and governmental figures, no current president's personal business has previously pursued trademark protection in the context of such a namesake effort in the United States," Gerben mentioned on his blog. "I want to highlight: these trademark requests have no prior examples."

The trademark requests submitted by a family business unit called DTTM Operations to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office encompass three name variations—President Donald J. Trump International Airport, Donald J. Trump International Airport, and DJT.

Over the past year, the family has engaged in extensive branding activities, affixing its name to towers, golf resorts, and residential projects in locations such as Dubai, India, Saudi Arabia, and Vietnam.

The organization has also been marketing Trump-branded electric guitars, bibles, and sneakers, initiatives that also fall under the DTTM unit. In light of accusations that he and his family are benefiting financially from the presidency,

Trump has asserted that his business is managed in trust by his sons and that he is not involved in its daily operations.
